To name, or not to name, that is the question. A rose by any other name would smell as sweet.
Shakespeare aside, what is a name? Why do some people choose to not name their wolfonflies while others do? Are names really that important? Well, that is what I will be exploring in this rather informal essay.
Now then, before I go on, realize that this, and everything in this section of the boards, is my own personal opinions and ideas on things. You certainly don't have to take it to heart, it's more for entertaining purposes than anything, or something to read when you're bored.
Names... are funny things. Anything can be a name, and still work, yet some names just seem to suit things while others will be odd and awkward if attached to the wrong creature. A name is a word by which a wolfonfly is called in order to be unique from another wolfonfly. It also adds realness and personality to the wolfonfly, and makes it a pet, and not just a pretty picture on a screen.
But... why name your wolfonfly? Well, perhaps I'll start off with why I think people don't name their wolfonflies.
I think the number one reason why people don't name their wolfonflies is so they can keep track of which ones they've collected. I certainly haven't memorized every adult form of every individual egg. Plus some, like the recurrings, have the same blob and pup forms, making them indistinguishable from one another. By simply keeping their "name" as the type of wolfonfly they are (Mutual3, Epic4, Recurring21, etc) you ensure that you know which wolfonflies you have, and which ones you still need.
In my opinion though, this makes the game boring. When Wolfonflies don't have names, they just become inanimate objects, like stamps or baseball cards. It's also kind of hard to roleplay with a wolfonfly that doesn't have a name. They lose their individuality and personality when they don't have names.
Names put your own personal touch onto a wolfonfly, and partly defines their personality. A wolfonfly named Darkheart would have a different personality than one named Dove, or Drake for instance.
I also find that I feel more attached to wolfonflies with names. Once you've named something, it's special. The name reflects not only what the wolfonfly is, but what you see it as. A name isn't just a part of the wolfonfly, but a part of their owner as well. I'm also more likely to click on wolfonflies with names, just because in my mind, wolfonflies with names are better taken care of and appreciated than ones without.
But now, people reading this that don't name their wolfonflies are likely thinking but how can we tell which kind of wolfonfly it is then?
Well, in between naming and not naming is the best of both worlds. Epic3 Techno, Recurring51 Rage, Lucid2 Fluffy. You can still keep the type of wolfonfly it is in their name and just add in their name after it. This type of naming ensures that you know which type of wolfonfly you have, and also allows you to have a special pet that you can take on adventures with you.
