She really had waited for her challenger, this Tiger. She has waited all through the night in fact, and she hadn't shown up. Adacari sighed. Well, challenger or no challenger, it was time to eat. She didn't suppose that Tiger and her candycane wolfonfly would show up while she took a quick trip to the prize cage to choose out her meal.
Mind made up, Adacari left the ampitheatre and stood outside the prize cage. This early, most of the prizes were asleep. She closed her eyes, reached out her tail, and grasped a struggling Lucid in it. Well, it struggled at first, but then like all the rest, it went limp. Through some odd power that not even she knew how it worked, she worked the Lucid in between the bars, and then trotted back to the middle of the ampitheatre and laid it down.
She snorted when she saw what she had picked. This was the exact Lucid the Tiger-girl had wanted. Well, no matter, she could pick something else. Adacari closed her eyes again, feeling the fear that wafted from her prey. She shivered in delight as she lowered her mouth for the first bite.
Unlike some Nightmares that Adacari had known, she didn't deliberately inflict needless damage onto her prey; just eating it alive produced the fear and pain in the quantities she sought.
She took her first bite, and savoured the flavour, her acidic saliva automatically flowing faster. Her blue tongue licked up the blood as she ate, so the amphitheatre wasn't stained with it.
The horn, she saved for last, and some time later, licked it off the ground and crunched it up. Of her meal, nothing remained but the blood around her muzzle, which she quickly washed off with her tongue.
She could feel that curious sensation that she did every time she ate. If there had been a male Nightmare around, she likely would have begged him to mate with her. The thought made her laugh. Mate, and produce more Nightmares? All other Nightmares were were competition. There wasn't enough prey to go around, and she wasn't going to shorten her own supply of it.
The feeling passed, to be replaced with one of strength and satisfaction. Oh yes, that was what she had needed. Adacari was now ready to face her second week of battling, beginning with the Tiger girl's candycane Wolfonfly, if she ever arrived.
